Frequently Asked Questions

Where in my wedding can I use guitar music?

Generally weddings have two main sections that call for some music. The first one is the ceremony itself, which is divided into the prelude section where background (sitting music, if you will) is provided and, of course, the wedding ceremony itself. After that, guests usually go to a reception place, where music is provided both at the cocktail hour and dinner. Many weddings will have a D.J. for the dinner time, but soft, background music, during the cocktail.

Do you need to be at the wedding rehearsal?

No. As long as I have a schedule of the ceremony and your specific musical requirements, which we will discuss at the consultation, you don't need to pay me to come to the rehearsal. Keep in mind that music should serve the ceremony, and not the other way around. So I’ll time my selections to whatever situation in your wedding. If you do require me to come to the rehearsal, you will be billed an additional fee.

Will music inhibit people from talking?

People feel more at ease when there is music on the background. Everyone loves music and the artist is usually a good focal point to gather people. Amplification is also used as a minimal sound booster to allow for them to hear the music, but still be able to enjoy a good conversation.

Can we make a special request for a piece?

Absolutely. If the song is not in my repertoire, I’ll be happy to learn it, provided I’m able to find sheet music. Please note that special requests need a lead time of up to six weeks so that I can bring a piece to performance level. In most cases, this service does not carry an additional fee. However, more complex arrangements, for various instrumentalists, may require additional fee and/or time.

What if you can’t show up for the event?

In all my years of playing, I only had to cancel one event in the winter of 2004, when I broke my arm after falling on the ice. If there is an emergency situation and I have enough notice, I’ll make the necessary arrangements to find a professional musician to replace me.

Do I really have to pick my own music?

No, you don’t. Some couples get overwhelmed with their wedding planning and choose to let me pick their selections. If you don’t want to pick your selections, I’ll be happy to prepare a repertoire that will sound beautiful and let you know ahead of time if you wish to print it in a program.

Do you play outdoor weddings?

Yes, weather permitting. All outdoor events must have a back-up indoor location in the event of inclement weather. Please understand I won’t be able to perform outside as I have to protect my instruments and equipment in case of rain, snow, extreme heat or cold. On very windy days, there is also a problem with amplification and wind instruments like the flute. If weather conditions makes it impossible to perform, the full amount of the contract is nevertheless due. No outdoor bookings are accepted from November through February on the New England region.

Do you need to be amplified?

The classical guitar is a very subtle instrument and in most weddings you will need some sort of amplification. I have my own professional amplification system and microphones which are enough for most indoor/outdoor settings. There is no extra charge for the equipment.

Will you travel outside Massachusetts?

Yes, I drive to contiguous states (RI, CT, VT, NH, NY). But trips longer than one hour drive from the Metrowest Region, even in Massachusetts, will require an additional travel fee. If a ceremony will require me to travel overnight, then you have to provide for sleeping accommodations.
